INTELLIGENCE EDUCATION
This
article takes a look at current research on emotional intelligence. This
article is focused on the four branches model of Mayer and Salovey (1997),
which characterizes emotional intelligence as a set of four interrelated abilities:
perceiving, using, understanding and managing emotions.
Salovey and
Mayer proposed a model of emotional intelligence in order to organize the study
of individual differences in abilities related to emotions. This model
motivated the creation of the first tests of emotional intelligence based on
skills.
Positive
emotions broaden the repertoire of a person's thoughts, facilitating problem
solving.
In 2002, Mayer,
Salovey and Caruso created the MSCEIT (Mayer-Salovey-Caruso
Emotional Intelligence Test). This test lasts about 40 minutes and can be written or in computer. It
classifies a person's skills in the four branches of emotional intelligence.
Then, it gives a score for each of the four branches, plus an overall score.

PERSONAL OPINION
From our point of view, we believe that
emotional education is a very important aspect for the children’s development,
both at school and at home. Therefore, we believe that the school it would be
interesting to give the same importance to the contents emotions.
Therefore, we think that the school should
give the same importance for the contents and for the emotions
We also agree with the following ideas that
appear in the text: "Positive
emotions broaden the repertoire of a person's thoughts, facilitating problem
solving". For example: Laia is a bit discouraged
because she has to do a Catalan exam and she has failed all the Catalan exams
she has done since the beginning of the course.
Laia is discouraged when she has to study
Catalan, therefore this won’t allow her to study properly and to pass the exam.
Finally, we fully agree with the tests
created by the three authors because we think they permit you to know and to
investigate about the emotional
state of each individual.
